Skirts Over Dresses

J.Crew dress and belt, Banana Republic skirt and bracelet, Tiffany & Co. Rubedo interlocking circles pendant c/o, Jimmy Choo heels, clutch-gift from London from my aunt (from Accessorize), and Fendi selleria cat eye sunglasses

Last weekend I was catching up with some magazines my cousin brought from London and I could not help but noticing celebrities wearing skirts over dresses. At first glance I thought the look was kind of odd but I was intrigued and drawn to Blake Lively's' outfit. She is wearing a cream lace Valentino dress with a powder blue skirt on top. The look is feminine, pretty, and she pulls off this trend exceptionally well.

And while Diane Kruger's look is not exactly my style, she looks fashion forward in a Derek Lam floral shirt dress and black and white striped skirt. I also like the clash of prints and the pop of color with her sandals.

Karolina Kurkova's outfit, on the other hand, is a great example of how not to wear a skirt over a dress. The maroon pattered sheer dress paried with the metallic skirt just isn't working, maybe because the dress is too baggy and the skirt is too tight and the entire outfit seems a bit mismatched.

I decided to go a bit conservative and paired up a polka dotted dress with a simple black pencil skirt. I like this skirt over the dress because only a little bit of the dress is peeking out of the bottom of the skirt. Also the colors are complimentary and the styles of the skirts are similar too.
