Weekend Getaway to NYC? With Fall just around the corner it can get a little tricky on how to pack light. The key is to pick essential items and work them together for maximum usage.

Additional Style Tips

Stick to a neutral color scheme with bright colors, like shown above all the pieces can easily mix and match to create multiple looks. I chose black and white as my neutrals.

A white blouse is a must have! Wear this silky blouse casually with flats when strolling through Central Park or shopping on Fifth Avenue or dress it up with statement jewelry and a skirt for a nice dinner or a broadway show. Any item which you can dress up or down with accessories and footwear is always a good idea when trying to pack light.

Another must have is a pair of jeans. No matter where your travels are, you can't go wrong with bringing a pair along.

Since the weather in NYC can be unpredictable, pack a leather jacket and cardigan to layer up. In lieu of a cardigan or leather jacket, you can also pack a blazer or denim jacket. They key is layering!

The tweed skirt is also a great option for Fall. Wear it with a neutral or bright colored top and any of the three shoes depending on where you're going for the day.

As mentioned before, emerald green is the color of the year, so why not pack a sheath dress in that color. Sheath dresses are a silhouette that can easily transition from day to night by toning it down with flats and simple jewelry or go all out with fabulous pumps.

Lastly the shoes-cap toe flats are in. These tan and black ones are great to wear anywhere and with anything. Black classic booties and pumps are essential to quickly change up the look of an outfit.

As for accessories, pack a few simple and statement jewelry pieces. A statement necklace or earrings can easily change up the whole look of an outfit.

Another statement piece is adding a printed scarf to your basics. It is a great way to look trendy while keeping yourself protected from the weather. In case the scarf isn't needed, simple tie it around the handles of the tote to style up your bag.

For the evening time switch over to a colorblock clutch like the one shown above. Not only is color blocking in for Fall but the three neutral colors work fabulously with any color or print.

The tights are cold weather savers, pack a pair and wear it with either the skirt or dress.

Now that you're ready to pack, roll your clothes when filling your suitcase for the maximum amount of room. It is always good to save a little extra space in the suitcase, especially with impulsive shopping sprees in the city!
