Green Chutney

Green chutney is one of the most popular Indian accompaniments and it has a taste that is spicy, tangy, and slightly sweet.  It is typically served with appetizers such as samosas and kebabs, but it can also be used as a sandwich spread or as as a sauce for fish. There are many variations of green chutney but this one is my favorite  because it's my mom's recipe.

Green Chutney

2 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp sugar

2 green chillies

1 granny smith apple with the peel

2 tbsp water

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 large bunch of washed cilantro

salt to taste

Directions

Place all the ingredients into a blender and mix until the consistency is smooth. Add more water if needed.

This recipe makes about 1 and 1/2 cups of chutney.

Store in the refrigerator for up to one week.
